FAQs

  • We require that all dogs follow the vaccination protocols designated and administered by their licensed veterinarian. When of appropriate age, dogs must be kept up-to-date on their rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations or titer equivalent. Group classes will require specific vaccinations according to the location and nature of the class.

  • With our in-home training programs your dog can start at any age! In fact, beginning training early sets your puppy up for long-term success and will save you a lot of trial and error. Restrictions for our group classes are contingent on your dog completing the required vaccinations rather than being a certain age.

  • We do not! You are hiring us for our time and expertise, regardless of how many dogs we are working with. We can help you establish realistic training goals relevant to us splitting training time between multiple dogs.

  • Our belief is that all training equipment should be comfortable and safe for the dog and the human. We do not choose equipment intended to cause discomfort or pain (i.e. prong collars or e-collars), nor do we choose tools that present a safety hazard to the handler (i.e. retractable leashes). Our “go-to” equipment recommendations include well-fitted harnesses, 8-10 ft leashes, and flat collars. Other equipment we incorporate into our training includes treat pouches, long lines, clickers, target sticks, elevated platforms, puzzle toys, and kongs.

  • We provide a timely and appropriate reinforcer as payment for the desired behavior. The reinforcer could be a variety of things including food, affection, verbal praise, play, access to the yard, off-leash time, sniff time, interaction with another human, etc.

  • There are multiple options for addressing undesired behaviors. The choice we make will be based on the dog’s age, the behavior, the stage of learning the dog is in, etc. We may choose to actively disengage from the dog in response to the undesired behavior, we may choose to redirect the dog to an appropriate activity, we may stop the training session and give the dog a break, we may remove the dog’s access to certain resources or environments, or we may choose some combination of these things. We will not choose any strategies intended to startle, intimidate, or physically harm your dog.

  • To put it simply, your dog isn’t an appliance, your dog is a living animal, so we do not offer guarantees for training. Working with animals (human and non-human) involves lots of variables beyond our control that will dictate the likelihood of success.

  • Yes, we are insured through Business Insurers of the Carolinas, a company that specializes in providing policies to dog trainers and other dog care professionals.

  • Similar to the healthcare industry, you will find that most professionals in the dog training industry do not work with all cases and may specialize in certain areas. While we are proud to work with a wide range of training needs, we may refer your case to a veterinary behaviorist if/when we determine your dog’s behavioral challenges are tied to an undiagnosed medical condition and/or your dog’s behavioral challenges present a high bite risk to humans. If you are uncertain that we will accept your case feel free to ask us!

  • We currently offer in-your-home overnight sitting to all of our current and former students! Additionally, we off in-trainer’s-home boarding for all graduates of our Live With The Trainer Program

  • Yes, we love working with our local queer community and are happy to be a part of Everywhere Is Queer
